Frequently Asked Questions About Secoh Air Pumps
Answered by Secoh Australia Founder, Peter Spinks
Have questions about choosing, maintaining or troubleshooting a Secoh air pump? Peter Spinks has spent more than 30 years supplying and supporting wastewater aeration systems across Australia.
Watch Peter answer the questions he's most often asked by homeowners, service technicians, and installers.
Choosing an Air Pump
What made you develop the JDK-80 Air Pump?
The JDK-80 Air Pump was developed after Peter Spinks saw that many air blowers available in Australia weren't delivering the reliability and performance he expected. While working in the vineyards, he came across a Secoh air pump that had been operating successfully for an extended period, which sparked the idea to partner with Secoh.
After travelling to Japan to meet with the Secoh team, Peter initially imported their existing air pumps. However, he found they weren't ideally suited to Australia's conditions. Working closely with Secoh and TKO Japan, he helped develop the JDK-80 Air Pump specifically for the Australian market. The result is an energy efficient, robust and long lasting linear air pump designed to provide reliable performance for aerated wastewater treatment systems across Australia.

Is the JDK-80 Air Pump suitable for you?
The JDK-80 Air Pump is ideal for many household aerated wastewater treatment systems requiring an 80 litre per minute linear air pump. If you're replacing an existing pump or looking for a reliable upgrade, it's important to confirm your system's airflow requirements before purchasing. Choosing the correct air pump helps maintain treatment performance and ensures your wastewater system continues operating as designed.

Why choose the JDK-80 Air Pump over other air blowers on the market?
The JDK-80 Air Pump combines proven Japanese engineering with local Australian support, making it a dependable choice for residential wastewater treatment systems. It is designed to operate efficiently, consume minimal power and provide reliable performance over many years. Genuine Secoh spare parts are readily available, making servicing straightforward and helping extend the life of the pump rather than replacing the entire unit.

What is the difference between the JDK-80 Air Pump and the TKO-200 Air Pump?
The JDK-80 and TKO-200 Air Pumps are designed for different applications. The JDK-80 delivers 80 litres of air per minute while using just 47 watts of power, making it an energy-efficient choice for most residential aerated wastewater treatment systems.
The TKO-200, on the other hand, is designed specifically for commercial wastewater treatment applications where a much higher airflow is required. While the JDK-80 uses a two-diaphragm design, the TKO-200 features four diaphragms, allowing it to deliver significantly greater air output to suit larger treatment systems.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting
What do you do if the JDK-80 Air Pump stops working?
If your JDK-80 Air Pump stops working, your wastewater treatment system will usually alert you with an air alarm or flashing warning light. In many cases, the problem is caused by a worn or torn diaphragm, or the pump may have shut down because a power surge has tripped its internal safety protection.
If this happens, contact your wastewater service provider as soon as possible. Prompt diagnosis and repair will help restore your air pump and ensure your aerated wastewater treatment system continues operating correctly.

Are Secoh Air Pumps noisy?
No. Both the JDK-80 and TKO-200 Secoh Air Pumps are designed to operate very quietly. They feature internal soundproofing around the motor, which helps minimise operating noise while maintaining reliable airflow for your wastewater treatment system.
Under normal operating conditions, you should only hear a low-level hum from the pump. If your air pump suddenly becomes noticeably louder than usual, it may indicate that servicing or replacement of internal components, such as the diaphragms, is required.

Why do you VacPac your spare parts?
At Secoh Australia, our genuine diaphragm kits are VacPac sealed to maximise their shelf life and ensure they're in the best possible condition when you need them. Exposure to air and sunlight can cause the rubber diaphragms to deteriorate over time, reducing their flexibility and performance.
By vacuum sealing every diaphragm kit, we help protect the rubber from premature ageing, giving homeowners and wastewater service technicians confidence that the parts will perform as intended. It's a simple but effective way to extend the life of your Secoh Air Pump and keep your wastewater treatment system operating reliably.
